Is Manifesting Real? Let’s take a look.

It’s happened to all of us. When you want something so, so badly to happen to you that it’s all you can think about. And then suddenly, over time, the puzzle pieces fall into place and what do you know? That thing that you wanted to happen, happened.

That guy you were crushing on? He starts giving you attention.

That dream job you were hoping to get promoted to? You landed it.

The new car you’ve been eyeballing? You got a huge end-of-year bonus and guess what’s sitting in your driveway.

The mole on your back? Doctor says its benign!

It feels too good to be true. You almost feel guilty.

But did you cause this to happen? Or is it just a coincidence that the outcome you were visualizing in your head, over and over, came to fruition? Let’s dive into it.

Is Manifestation Real?

is manifestation real

Yes, manifestation is real. There is just no scientific way to prove that it works. But, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t power behind your manifestation and intentions. Most people I talk to about manifestation feel strongly that they have manifested at least something in their own lives.

Even though there is a lack of scientific evidence, there are countless anecdotal examples that I have heard of people who manifest things that eventually comes true. Whether these events actually happened from manifestation is technically up for debate. But I think that there’s something to be said about carrying a positive mindset, setting specific intentions, and working towards a goal that are all parts of a beneficial manifestation process.

What is Manifesting and Why Do People Do It?

Manifesting comes in many different shapes and sizes. There are several manifestation techniques and manifestation practices out there.

Generally, though, manifesting is the process of thinking positively in an organized fashion about an event our outcome, in hopes to influence the outcome to come true. By manifesting, you are setting your intentions with the universe, and in return the universe will reward you with what it is you want.

People manifest because they want something that they don’t have. Manifesting aims to align the universe with their desired outcome in order to achieve their intentions. Also, part of me can’t help but believe that people practice manifesting because it works.

How Does Manifestation Work?

woman wondering, how does manifestation work

Well, manifestation works by first making your desires known to the universe. By telling the universe (and yourself) your desired outcome, you are creating a pathway to channel your energy, leading you to success. This helps to focus your actions and makes it much more likely that what you’re manifesting comes true.

Practicing manifestation oftentimes involves writing down your manifestations on a sheet of paper. For reasons like this, manifestation is much more intentional than simply hoping that what you want to happen will happen. In the act of manifesting, you are taking action towards what you desire instead of passively hoping for something to happen.

Manifestation Definition

Merriam Webster defines manifest (the verb) as “to make evident or certain by showing or displaying.” This simplistic definition encompasses the general principles of the practice.

People have an idea of an outcome or a specific goal that they want in their head. They want to make this outcome “evident” or “certain,” meaning attract this outcome into their life. To do that, they want to show or display to the world that this is what they want, in hopes that their dreams will come true.

Can You Really Change Your Life With Manifestation?

Yes, yes you can. Once I started manifesting, I saw positive change in my life right away. I’m a person with naturally negative thoughts, but when I actually write down what it is I am trying to manifest, the negativity is blocked out. It sort of tricks my brain into positive thinking. Because of this, my focus on my desire becomes so much greater.

It also utilizes the law of attraction (something we’ll get to in a little) and can make it feel like those things you want are reaching out back to you. To strengthen your manifestation process, meditation and positive affirmations can be used, both of which can be life changing in their own right.

Manifestation isn’t Just Wishful Thinking

an illustration of wishful thinking

Effective manifestation is so much more than just thinking about what it is you want. Manifestation is about having a plan, executing on that plan, and developing beliefs so strong that your dreams become reality. For example, one of the most popular meditation methods, the 3-6-9 method, goes as follows:

  • Write your manifestation 3 times in the morning

  • Write it 6 times in the afternoon

  • Write it 9 times at night

The thought process behind this is that be reminding the universe with increasing numbers of your intention, the universe is signaled to deliver your desires. Manifesting has also been shown to improve your mood and relieve stress, which goes to show that it’s a powerful tool for self care.

The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction says that with everything in the universe, like attracts like. The Law of Attraction is always at play with everything in the universe.

We do things like make friends, enjoy artwork, and watch shows every day without realizing why these things are happening. The reason that we are attracted to our friends, why we like the art we like, and why we watch what we like to watch is the Law of Attraction. We are on the same vibrational wavelength as the things we choose to be around and be close to. This is the law of attraction at work.

Attracting your Desired Outcome

This is where manifestation comes into play. Manifestation understands how the Law of Attraction works. Practicing manifestation is aligning your own personal vibration with that of what you want, so that you and your desires attract each other.

So all your positive thoughts, feelings, and energy that you are putting into your desire through manifestation is not all for nothing. Manifesting is using your power to align your vibration and attract success.

How Manifestation Can Help Us Overcome Problems

Manifestation can help us to overcome our problems for the following reasons:

  • Positive Thinking

  • Goal Setting

  • Increased Motivation

  • Stress Reduction

  • Behavioral Changes

  • Improved Focus

  • Empowerment

These are all examples of the tangible ways in which manifestation techniques can help us to overcome our problems. These examples still are not able to fully describe the intangible energy of the world and universe which manifestation also seems to affect.

Mental Health Professional on Manifestation

a mental health professional

Mental health professionals have noted that there are some obvious positive benefits that come with manifestation. Psychologists and other mental health professionals remind us of 3 main things when discussing manifestation:

  1. You need to understand how manifestation works

  2. Defining actionable steps and then taking action on them is a key component

  3. There are limits to what you can manifest

These are all fair and valid points. Obviously, to manifest your desires in life, you have to understand what it is you are doing.

You also have to make yourself available to what it is you want. Laying in bed for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and writing down your manifestation isn’t going to get you that new car or new job. You have to take action towards what it is you want, in conjunction with the manifestation.

There are limits to what you can manifest. Your manifestation may not cure cancer, or make you leader of the free world. And that’s okay.

It trains unconscious action

By fully buying into what it is you’re manifesting, and devoting all of your belief and energy, you will train both your conscious and unconscious (subconscious) to work towards that specific goal. Manifesting works by simply believing in something and devoting energy to it.

The real change comes when your actions align with your manifestations. This happens when your unconscious and conscious are unified towards reaching that one specific goal you might have.

How Positive Thinking Can Help You Reach Your Goals

Manifestation is embodied by positive thinking. Positive thinking can provide several important benefits of reaching your goals. These benefits include:

  • Enhanced problem-solving capabilities

  • Increased resilience

  • Better stress management

  • Improved health and energy

Even if you remove the metaphysical properties that manifestation has to offer, the power of the positive thinking of manifestation alone can bring you benefits that may help you achieve your goals.

The catch-22 of self-belief

Self-belief can work in a funny way. Positive thinking can lead to positive outcomes in your life, which reinforces your positive thinking and self-belief. This self enforcing cycle repeats in perpetuity, propelling you on an upwards trajectory in life.

Conversely, negative thoughts and self blame can have the same self-enforcing cycle, but working negatively. If you lack self belief, you are going to doubt yourself, and when you inevitably fall short of your dreams, you are going to believe in yourself even less, and so on.

Manifesting can get you on the positive side of this cycle.

When You Manifest Positive Things, You Get Positive Outcomes

When you put your energy into a positive idea, get yourself on the wavelength of a positive vibration, and use the power of manifestation positively, then positive outcomes will happen to you.

We can also manifest negative outcomes. This usually happens when we don’t even realize that we’re manifesting something.

If we wake up on the wrong side of the bed and tell ourselves, “Today is going to be terrible,” then chances are, that day is really not going to go well.

We can control whether what we manifest is positive or negative. We might as well make it something positive.

Will Manifesting Help Me Get My Dream Job?

A dream job is a great outcome to manifest. By telling ourselves over and over that this is what we want, we will certainly attract the job. Remember, the job won’t just fall into your lap if you don’t want it.

Manifestation techniques will also train your subconscious to take the proper actions when the situations present themselves to help you land the job.

So yes, I think it’s safe to say that manifesting will help you get your dream job.
